Les Jango sont décidément impayables. On les reconnaît à leur élégance tape-à-l’œil et à leur sens de la fête. Et ce sont les femmes qui mènent la danse, dans la Maison de la Mère, au cœur de toutes les rumeurs. Les histoires les plus folles courent d’ailleurs sur Safia, élevée au lait de hyène, Alam Gishi l’Éthiopienne experte en amour, ou l’inénarrable Wad Amouna. Lorsque soudain souffle le vent de la révolte… Dans les effluves de café grillé, de chicha parfumée et de gomme arabique, se joue une comédie humaine dont les Jango, « sages à la saison sèche et fous à la saison des pluies » sont les héros.
